I want to welcome my newest Sponsor, Dana, the artist behind Cereus Art. Dana specializes in handmade items that bring a touch of the beach right to your own home. The image above is a portion of a beautiful 3′ Starfish Garland that Dana has in her Cereus Art Etsy store. This is just one example of the unique items Dana carries in her store. Be sure to pop on over and check it out.
Let’s get to know Dana a bit better, shall we…
Tell us about your business, Dana… how you got started & how long you’ve been in business.
Having lived in Virginia Beach, VA almost all of my life I’ve always had the ocean at my back door. While planning my beach wedding and week-long wedding celebration in Sandbridge locally I was unable to find affordable items that reflect my own casual beach style. So, I started making them. I made my own starfish embossed invitations and thank you cards, wedding programs, out of town quest baskets, bathroom baskets, I-Spy wedding reception cards, a “de-sanding” station, personalized coasters, favors, water bottles, and wedding signage. It was a labor of love, but many of our friends still compliment us on the numerous little extras we provided at the wedding.
In 2011 I opened CereusArt for folks looking for affordable casual handcrafted coastal decor and finishing touches.
2. Do you have any items that are your absolute favorites?
It’s hard for me to pick a favorite because I enjoy making them all. Our most popular item would probably be the Starfish Santa Christmas ornaments. People really seem to get a kick out of Santa with sunglasses and swim trunks.
That item is completely customizable so I get a lot of requests for college sport team colors.
3. Where do you get your inspiration for new products or items?
I try to make products that I would use in my own home or would want to give as a present to my friends and family.
4. What’s coming up for spring? Do you have new products?
I recently got my hands on some vintage nautical charts. My goal is to introduce some nautical chart inspired items this spring.
5. What one tip do you have for others who are thinking about starting their own businesses or are just starting out?
I would advise them to just go for it! Don’t be dismayed by naysayers. If you enjoy what you do, customers will feel your passion.
As you can see from the cute Santa Starfish and 3′ Starfish Garland, Dana takes a whimsical approach to coastal decor. Be sure to check out her Etsy shop. I’m confident you’ll not only enjoy the wide variety of items, but also the low prices and handmade quality.
Thanks Dana for sponsoring Beautifully Coastal! I appreciate our partnership.
