Alda Fendi, Cote Sud, Mediterranean Vacation Home

I always love the beach and beach houses of all varieties capture my imagination and my heart, but today it’s ~~raining~~ pouring outside and so I’m particularly drawn to the idea of being somewhere where the weather is so perfect… blue skies and billowy breezes (in place of lap blankets and propane heat) and all I have to do is relax on one of those sling-back lounge chairs taking in the sea and dreaming. What am I dreaming of, you might ask? ~~Cold, winter days in Oregon~~ Matthew McConaughey, of course! I did say dreaming, right?

This gorgeous vacation home belongs to Alda Fendi (of the Fendi fashion house). Yep, you heard me right… this isn’t her main residence, this is just her little vacation get-away for those times when she needs a bit of respite and fresh inspiration. I love it and so does Alda. She said she fell in love with the island’s natural beauty, silence and simple life. How could she not, right? This is a mostly uninhabited island in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the west coast of Italy, called Palmarola. I think it should be called Perfection.

What about you? If money were no object, how long would you make your reservation for? Keep in mind, the island is nearly uninhabited — all but a few small restaurants and a few neighbors in the summertime. But then again, it is Perfection!

Oyster Garland and
Coral Multi-Candleholder Tutorial

I spent the summer on the Oregon coast, not too far from the Pacific Seafood Company where they had huge piles of shucked oyster shells available for the taking. I sure wish I’d seen this Oyster Shell Garland tutorial by Once Wed when I had all those shells calling my name! This idea could easily be adapted to other shells too.

To make the coral candleholder, simply put orthodontics wax on the bottom of each candle and push it into the coral. So simple. So brilliant. Why didn’t I think of that {slaps head}!

Two of My Favorite Colors Come Together in One Snappy, Happy Bedroom

Turquoise aqua blue and green coastal bedroom by Dyfari Interiors

I love, love, L.O.V.E. absolutely everything about this stunning, beachy bedroom by Diane Guariglia of Dyfari Interiors. I’m sure you’re not surprised by that, right? I mean it perfectly matches the color scheme of this blog, but it takes me to my happy place for a few more reasons…

It reminds me of everything I loved about living on the beach in Florida!
My best friend, Kletia, wore this color combo all the time. Seriously, ALL THE TIME, and always beautifully!
The leather cover on my bible is a combo of these two colors.
And, of course, it makes me think of the turquoise gulf waters and the green of the palm trees from my seaside backyard and that always takes me to my happy place!

All that aside, this gorgeous bedroom had me at “hello”, so let’s dissect it just a bit and see what else makes it so special.

First of all, I adore a great wallcovering and this bold, over-sized paisley pattern by Cole & Son “Rajapur” is about as perfect as they come! Drooling A.D.O.R.A.T.I.O.N.!!!!

Excuse me while I pull myself back together and get back to this gorgeous coastal bedroom! … Okay, I’m back …

As much as I ADORE the wallpaper, I’m equally mad for the bold pattern that Diane painted on the ceiling. Such a simple idea, really, but pure perfection! And notice that the “stripe theme”is an important element that she carries throughout the rest of the design from the pillows; to the bedskirt; to the drapery panels’ and even to the upholstery on the desk chair.

And what about the lime green chandelier? Gorgeous, right? I think so and I love that it started life as a white chandelier from Ballard Designs, but stepped into the realm of coastal perfection with a few coats of lime green spray paint! Brilliant!

”Love is in the details” and the details in the drapery panels continue the story. The inset green “stripes” not only carry on the theme of bold green accents, but coupled with the white of the drapes, it make me think of old-fashioned beach changing tents. Um-hum … love is in the details!

These two bedside lamps are garage sale finds that were spray painted turquoise blue. From there, Diane purchased a couple of cheap lampshades and added ribbon trim. Don’t ‘cha just love simple, inexpensive ideas that anyone can do!

Desk from West Elm and Sisal Rug from Pottery Barn, but how about those silver legs on the white chair from Shine by Sho.

If you’re going to put artwork on this bold of a wallcovering, it needs to be simple and graphic. All of the art chosen for this room comes from Art Addiction and fits the bill perfectly.

Love the “coral” back chair from Oly Studio with the seat upholstered in a fabric from Lelievre!

Let’s Celebrate Cinco de Mayo

Sexy Pink Grapefruit Margarita’s

Okay, just from the perspective of being so pretty, these margaritas would be worth making — but add the fact that they’re absolutely refreshing and delicious and you’ll have a new favorite Margarita drink for Cinco de Mayo and every other moment when a Margarita is calling your name!

These sexy drinks are super simple to make — the only catch being, you need fresh limes — it really makes a difference. Make these at your next party, they are sure to be a hit.

Pink Grapefruit Margaritas

From: Barefoot Contessa’s How Easy Is That

1 cup ruby red grapefruit juice
1/2 cup fresh squeezed lime juice (about 4 limes)
1 cup triple sec orange liqueur
3 cups ice
1 cup silver tequila
1 lime cut in wedges, optional Kosher salt.

If you prefer to rim the glasses take a lime wedge and rim, then dip in salt, if you do not like a salted rim sprinkle a touch of salt in each glass, the salt really brings out the flavor.

Combine the grapefruit juice, lime juice, triple sec and ice in a blender. Pour into a large pitcher (or just keep it in the blender) and pour in the tequila, stir. (I personally just added it all to the blender- I like slushy, that is totally up to you)

Makes 4 drinks.

* Just as a note: it is important to use Ruby Red grapefruit juice, it is much sweeter than regular and it has the lovely pink color.
