barefoot contessa's pink grapefruit margarita

Okay, just from the perspective of being so pretty, these margaritas would be worth making — but add the fact that they’re absolutely refreshing and delicious and you’ll have a new favorite Margarita drink for Cinco de Mayo and every other moment when a Margarita is calling your name!

These sexy drinks are super simple to make — the only catch being, you need fresh limes — it really makes a difference. Make these at your next party, they are sure to be a hit.

Pink Grapefruit Margaritas

From: Barefoot Contessa’s  How Easy Is That

  • 1 cup ruby red grapefruit juice
  • 1/2  cup fresh squeezed lime juice (about 4 limes)
  • 1 cup triple sec orange liqueur
  • 3 cups  ice
  • 1 cup silver tequila
  • 1   lime cut in wedges, optional Kosher salt.

If you prefer to rim the glasses take a lime wedge and rim, then dip in salt, if you do not like a salted rim sprinkle a touch of salt in each glass, the salt really brings out the flavor.

Combine the grapefruit juice, lime juice, triple sec and ice in a blender. Pour into a large pitcher (or just keep it in the blender) and pour in the tequila, stir. (I personally just added it all to the blender- I like slushy, that is totally up to you)

Makes 4 drinks.

* Just as a note: it is important to use Ruby Red grapefruit juice, it is much sweeter than regular and it has the lovely pink color.

Florida Gulf Coast Home in Shades of Turquoise

I’m crazy nuts about this gorgeous Seaside, Florida home!  Of course, from the very first time I visited Seaside, I fell in love with all the ice cream shades and the charming perfection of this coastal town. It’s where they filmed the movie, The Truman Show which was all about living a perfect life in a perfect community… and it turns out it was all fake.  Natch.

If you love beach style, you probably love chippy paint, weathered wood, old wicker, sea shells, sand, rope, and delightful flea market finds.  That’s our version of perfection.  None the less, I heart Seaside; in all it’s perfection driven glory.  And if you haven’t seen the movie, it’s worth a rent. It stars Jim Carey and Seaside, FL. How can you go wrong!

But… I digress… let’s take a look at this gorgeous Seaside home.

Talk about perfection, this home does it for me! Just steps from the beach, beautiful views, and a soothing color palette reminiscent of the sea.

Second Sandbar,” is a beautifully designed and built oceanfront villa in Watercolor/Seaside on the fabulous Emerald Coast of the Gulf of Mexico.  Toby West, Atlanta interior decorator, interior designed this home and provided many of the fabrics from her own collection.  Veranda Magazine published it on their cover for its breathtaking views and “Panhandle Pallette,” thus the name “Second Sandbar” as it is the aqua color inside and out, of the gorgeous second sandbar in the Gulf.  How divine!

Wanna stay here? You can! It’s actually a vacation rental and if you have $750 a night to spend, this could be yours! It sleeps 8, so that’s not a bad deal.  If you want a prime summertime week, the rate raises to $8,450.00/week, plus $350 cleaning. You can find out more here.

So what about you?  Could you live in a home with a single color palette, even if it’s this beautiful? Let me know what you think, k?

Peace, Love, and Celebrating the Colors of the Sea,

sky blue living room in beach cottage

One look at this charming coastal cottage and I think you’ll be as enamored as I am!  I love the soothing sky blue color palette mixed with chippy paint, awning stripes, white wicker, and lots and lots of shells.
It just couldn’t be more beachy perfect!

I’m head over heels crazy about blue in all it’s hues so it’s no surprise I’ve completely fallen in love with  Ralph Laurens latest summer collection.  An artistic blend of Asian and French influences is right at home in a beautifully coastal home.  Sky blue is classic and fresh all at the same time and creates an easy to live with, relaxed style.

What about you?  What do you like best about this home? Are you feeling inspired?

french coastal cottage

The moment I saw this French coastal cottage, I knew it was love!  Okay… not so much the exterior … it could use some work … but let’s go inside and you’ll get to experience the casual, fun, hip nature of this cottage.  It makes me want to settle in … sandy feet and all!  It’s that “don’t take yourself too seriously” kind of home which is my very favorite kind of beachy home!

Need I mention they had me at the word “hippies” …  oh you know they would {!} … and as you scroll through the images, you’ll see exactly what I mean!

Let’s Start in the Foyer

french coastal cottage at the beach (4)

This home sets the casual tone right from the very beginning … from the recycled wood settee; to the re-purposed crate ‘shoe shelf’; to the driftwood star; to the hand-woven basket; and finally the white washed bombay dresser and round mirror. Need I even mention the white-washed clapboard siding that runs throughout the interior and the amazing light fixture?

Moving into the Salon

french coastal cottage at the beach (12)

This room just shouts “come on in and get cozy”.  Don’t worry about putting your sandy feet up on the sofa’s because the sofa’s are the color of sand!  This room is purely casual and open to the rest of the living areas.

and the Play Area

french coastal cottage at the beach (6)

This play area is actually the other side of the “living room/salon”.  Don’t you just love the rattan toy box, which translates to “Travel Trunk”.

Color and Style

french coastal cottage at the beach (5)

This is a French coastal cottage, but the color palette and overall styling would feel right at home in a coastal home here in Oregon.  When I lived in Florida, the coastal colors matched the colors of the flowers and the beautiful turquoise waters.  In Oregon, our water and skies are often presented in shades of grey and a grey palette, accented with natural wood and white would be right at home!

french coastal cottage at the beach (8)

You can see how the living room opens right into the eating area, heated by a wood stove and accented with shades of gray and white… with one splash of apple green. How unexpectedly delightful is that!

french coastal cottage at the beach (10)

The entire house is filled with light which bounces off all of the white surfaces and keeps the grey from feeling drab.  This slatted “picnic style” table feels right at home in this beach home.

This open space kitchen is all part of the great room styling and in typical European style, it doesn’t have any upper cabinets.  Did you notice the pear on the back counter, next to the sink? And did you notice the pear canister on the dresser next to the front door?  Hmmm… how very French!

Architecture

french coastal cottage at the beach (11)

Here you start to get a real sense of the openness of the architecture and the amazing details that were built in! Just look at those ceilings!!!

The upstairs hallway showcases the ceilings and some storage. You find a door at the end of the hallway leading to a balcony.

french coastal cottage at the beach (14)

Again, we notice the light! Even the stairs have a skylight to bring the outdoors in.  Right at the top of the stairs you find a petite bathroom.  It’s tiny, but it doesn’t fall short on style.  I adore the pillow sink.

The Master Bedroom

french coastal cottage at the beach (3)

The master bedroom is a study in simplicity. Truth be told, it’s too simple for me. I love the “bones”, the skylight and beamed ceiling, but I’d love it to be much cozier and romantic.  I can’t read the entire artwork on the back wall, but the one on the right says “nuit” (night).  I’m sure it’s some kind of simple “day/night” or “good/night” message.

Unexpected Details in the Bathroom

french coastal cottage at the beach (15)

This bathroom gives me the biggest nod to it’s specifically French design.  Notice the simple bottles as flower vases; the tarnished bucket for rolled towels; and the crystal chandelier in a wire cage!  If you want some similar French cottage touches for your beach home, I can highly recommend Boutique de la Mer as a great place to start!

Hippies Take Note

The kids bedroom is pure fun and the tone is set right at the door!  This is the sign that had me at hello :)

french coastal cottage at the beach (16)

Love is in the details in this room. I love the built in bunks and the little vintage school desk — perfect for homework.  How cute is the beach photography with little “blackboard” fish dangling below. And who wouldn’t love the little play area at the top of the two steps!

french coastal cottage at the beach (17)

Oh what a perfect French seaside cottage where family, function and style take center stage and live together in perfect harmony.

I could be joyfully, blissfully, happy here … how about you?
